The health and wellness of our students, families, and our school has always been a partnership. As we enter the 2020-2021 school year, it is important that the bonds of this partnership are stronger than ever. In preparation for this school year, we are asking that ALL families complete and sign our Health & Wellness Pledge by Friday, August 7.

One parent must complete the pledge for all students. If your family has students in both TFA 5-day school as well as The Classical School and/or The First Hope, please complete both the TFA 5-day pledge as well as the pledge for The Classical School/The First Hope.

Health & Wellness Pledge

The First Academy does not guarantee a COVID-19 free environment.  Taking steps to reduce the risk of COVID- 19 is the shared responsibility of The First Academy and every visitor, student, faculty, and staff member of our campus community.

Our focus is to be in alignment with the CDC, health department guidelines, and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). The AAP “strongly advocates that all policy considerations for this coming school year should start with the goal of having the students physically present in school.”

Social distancing will be observed. As each building and classroom is unique in terms of space and infrastructure, social distancing will be flexible but will be implemented to the fullest practicable level.

The First Academy endeavors to ensure that student, faculty, and staff safety is a top priority.

Please read the following statements then sign at the bottom confirming your commitment to this Health and Wellness Pledge.

I understand and support that varying levels of social distancing measures will be implemented in many aspects of the school day across all divisions. There may be aspects of the school day where social distancing measures may be challenging to implement (classroom settings, transitions between class periods, Royal Recharge, lunch, etc.).

I will commit to daily health screenings at home for all children before coming to school including a temperature check. I commit to keeping my child home if they are demonstrating any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever of 100.4 ℉ or higher (without medication)
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • And/Or two or more of the following symptoms:
    • Cough
    • Chills
    • Fatigue
    • Muscle or body aches
    • Headache
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Sore throat
    • Congestion or runny nose
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Diarrhea

I understand and support that daily health screenings will take place before any student enters the school building and attendance will be determined by that screening.  Any student demonstrating COVID-19-like symptoms or testing with a fever of 100.4 ℉ or higher upon arrival to school may not be permitted to attend.  Daily health screenings will also take place at the end of the school day.

I understand and support that if my child is to come down with any of the above-listed symptoms, he/she will be isolated at school in a safe location until he/she can be picked up.

I understand and support that if my child comes in contact with anyone who is positive for COVID-19 or if any member of our immediate household tests positive for COVID-19, I will keep my child home and notify the school immediately.

I understand and support that if my child tests positive for COVID-19, then they may not return to school until at least 10 days have passed since the date of the first positive test, and they are symptom-free for at least 72 hours (no cough or shortness of breath), and no fever for at least 72 hours (three full days of no fever) without the use of fever-reducing medicine.

I understand and support the school mask policy as follows:

  • LOWER SCHOOL:
    • Students must wear face coverings when walking into the building from carline and when exiting the building to carline, to and from classes, and when unable to physically distance by 6 feet.
    • Students will not be required to wear face coverings in classrooms when appropriate physical distancing is possible, and when students are seated behind plexiglass desk shields. However, all students are welcome to wear face coverings in the classroom if they so choose. Students moving throughout the classroom must wear a face covering when they are not seated behind the plexiglass desk shield.
    • Students must wear face coverings outdoors unless physically distanced by 6 feet or involved in strenuous physical activities.
    • Students may remove face coverings while eating or drinking.
    • Employees are required to wear face coverings (masks or face shields) while on campus, unless in a private office and able to physically distance by 6 feet.
  • MIDDLE & UPPER SCHOOL:
    • Students are required to wear face coverings indoors, while walking to and from classes, and outdoors unless physically distanced by 6 feet or involved in strenuous physical activities.
    • Students may remove face coverings while eating or drinking.
    • Employees are required to wear face coverings (masks or face shields) while on campus, unless in a private office and able to physically distance by 6 feet.

I understand and support the use of hand sanitizer and frequent hand-washing as a safety measure at school.

I understand and support that for a period of time restricting non-essential visitors to the school buildings is an important safety measure for the health and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff.

I understand and support that some aspects of the school day may be adjusted, temporarily restructured, or delivered in a different format (chapel, assemblies, extracurricular activities, etc.).

I understand and support that our family is committed to all of the above criteria. I also understand that not supporting and complying with the criteria outlined in this Health and Wellness Pledge at any time may impact my child’s enrollment at The First Academy.

Coronavirus, COVID-19 is an extremely contagious virus that spreads easily through person-to-person contact. Federal and state authorities recommend social distancing as a means to prevent the spread of the virus. COVID-19 can lead to severe illness, personal injury, permanent disability, and death.

Assumption of Risk and Waiver of Liability Relating to COVID-19

The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization. COVID-19 is extremely contagious and is believed to spread mainly from person-to-person contact. However, there remain many unknowns about COVID-19, how it spreads, and its impact on a student.

By signing this agreement, I acknowledge the contagious nature of COVID-19 and voluntarily assume the risk that my child(ren) and I may be exposed to or infected by COVID-19 by attending The First Academy (TFA) programming and that such exposure or infection may result in severe illness, permanent disability, and death. I understand that the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by COVID-19 at TFA programming may result from the actions, omissions, or negligence of myself and others, including, but not limited to, TFA employees, contractors, volunteers, and program participants and their families.

I voluntarily agree to assume all of the foregoing risks and accept sole responsibility for any injury to my child(ren) or myself (including, but not limited to, personal injury, disability, and death), illness, damage, loss, claim, liability, or expense, of any kind, that I or my child(ren) may experience or incur in connection with my child(ren)’s attendance at The First Academy or participation in TFA programming (“Claims”). On my behalf, and on behalf of my child(ren), I hereby release, covenant not to sue, discharge, and hold harmless The First Academy, its employees, agents, representatives, volunteers and any other person who is providing a service to TFA of and from the Claims, including all liabilities, claims, actions, damages, costs or expenses of any kind arising out of or relating thereto. I understand and agree that this release includes any Claims based on the actions, omissions, or negligence of The First Academy, its employees, contractors, agents,  representatives, volunteers and any other person who is providing a service to TFA whether a COVID-19 infection occurs before, during, or after participation in any TFA programs.
